My Calculations on SARS Deathrate Worldwide

Summary
Many reports worldwide have underestimated the deathrate of SARS
worldwide. Using the recovery/death rates published by WHO, we are
showing that the death rate has been much higher then the 3.5% that
many reports a saying.

update on May 1: Overall death rate worldwide up 2% to 13.24%!

(update May 2nd: Global death rate now at 13.63%! )

Conclusions

It seems that the reported death rates are as high as 18.69% in Canada.
Worldwide, the number stands at 13.24% as of May 1st. This is very serious,
as these were probably mostly hospital workers who had full access to medical
services.

There have been reports of mutations of SARS, and maybe this is the cause
of the higher death rates in some countries. It also maybe that there are
many people about to be fully recovered, and thus these numbers will change.
It's also possible that the lower deathrate in China is due to a OVER counting
of cases, where people have less serious illnesses, and thus more likely to
fully recover.

Disclaimer

I have no connection to WHO or to the global medical community. I am a
computer programmer, and just running the numbers from WHO through my own
calculations. (Others do agree with some of my conclusions)

My interest in this subject comes from my own recent SARS scare as I came
down with all the symptoms of SARS (I had: coughing, fever, difficulty breathing
and recent contact with visitors from Hong Kong). My doctor was even scared
enough to send me to the hospital for X-rays and blood analysis. While I don't
believe that I have SARS, I still have yet to fully recover. In addition, I
was upset by the lack of seriousness that my local hospital took the situation.
(and I'm told, they are one of the most prepared in the area)

  Numbers gathered from here.
