Dave's 2002 NYC Triathlon

My wave of swim start
The swim as you can see was very long. The water was a very warm 79F, and was fine without a wet suit. I had been feeling a little sick all morning, but right at the swim start, I felt great.

Swim finish - transition area.
Get this %^&%& off my head!
With the long slow swim over, I could now get onto my better sports. There was a 100M run between the swim and the transition area before the bike. Needless to say, I ran pretty slow in my bare feet on asphalt.

Start of Bike!
Still wet from swim, and tired from mini run. I forgot to take off the rubber soles from my bike shoes, so I lost 30 seconds trying to clip in with them on.

Biking on the Highway.
Towards the end of the bike ride. During the second half of the bike, there were many pro/elite bikers passing me. They started a half hour after me and had already caught up.

Last turn in Bike.
Off the highway and to the underpass. Feeling sick of biking... ready to run. Should of had more to eat.

Off to transition area.
Fast transition from bike to run.

One Mile into run. Just the park to go.
Felt very bad for first mile, though I actually was going pretty fast. Too fast maybe.

Look at me rocket past this guy. (that's my foot.)
I was passing a lot of people for the first two miles. 7:30 miles.

My girlfriend finishing.
Erin, finishing 5 minutes ahead of me.

Me in the background.
Me almost catching someone waves ahead of me. I actually felt very very very bad the last few miles of the run. It was very hot. There was record heat in the park that day. I started stopping at the water stations to get more water.

Almost finished.
Long day almost finished.

Finished! 3:04:48
Finished! I felt sick for hours. Had a long 1.5 mile walk back to transition area, then had to ride my bike home 4 miles. Uhg! NYC 2012 at least had a good day. They moved onto the next round of Olympic selections.
